Morning dawned sunny and warm, the fresh breeze from the ocean a welcome though temporary respite from the heat; soon enough the sun would be warm and the heat oppressive. Birds twittered, animals began to stir in the underbrush. The peaceful silence was abruptly broken by amplified static.
